Gallery of Hands Cave of Chauvet-Pont-d'Arc, France The paintings in the cave were made approximately 31,000 years ago, making them arguably, the oldest examples of "art" done by man. Hand stencils were created by blowing pigments onto a hand placed against the wall. The black profile is a mammoth walking to the left (back, forehead, trunk). It was drawn after the hand. Hand Stencils are one of the most universal of all ancient art forms, found in sites of varying age all around the world. |
